Yeo Wei Wei, a renowned writer, educator, and translator, has launched a two-part collection titled “Diasporic + Clan”, featuring her translations, transcreations, and adaptations of Soon Ai Ling’s short story collection “人也•女也”. The launch event includes a screening of Eva Tang’s “The Veiled Willow”, a short film adaptation of one of Soon Ai Ling’s works, followed by a discussion with Yeo Wei Wei, Eva Tang, and Soon Ai Ling.
The discussion, titled “A Conversation about Film and Literary Adaptations”, will explore the intricacies of adapting literature into different art forms. The panellists, including Eva Tang, who was unanimously awarded the Hong Kong Chinese Literature Award first prize (prose), and Soon Ai Ling, an award-winning author of several novels and anthologies, will share their experiences with literary and film adaptations.
Yeo Wei Wei, known for her translation work on the blockbuster documentary “The Songs We Sang” by Singaporean filmmaker Eva Tang, will also offer insights into her process of adapting and transcribing Soon Ai Ling’s fiction in “Clan”.
